Orbit Determination Technology Earns AGI 13th Patent

EXTON, PA — The U.S. Patent & Trademark Office issued Analytical Graphics, Inc. (AGI) a patent for technology that improves the accuracy and efficiency of orbit determination for satellites with GPS receivers. This adds to the company’s 12 existing patents, which protect AGI’s analysis software for land, sea, air, and space.

AGI’s U.S. patent 7,050,002, entitled “GPS Carrier Phase Measurement Representation and Method of Use,” is based on an innovation by engineers James Wright, William Chuba, and Richard Hujsak. Sequential GPS Doppler carrier phase count measurements are used for precision sequential determination of position and velocity of a GPS receiver—such as for orbit determination and geolocation—with minimum throughput time. With this new AGI technology, real-time LEO orbit determination performance is enabled with an optimal sequential filter; near-real-time performance is supported by an optimal fixed-lag smoother. This patented innovation is included within the compa

Did You Know?

There is a time limit on patent protection.

For applications filed on or after June 8, 1995, utility and plant patents are granted for a term which begins with the date of the grant and usually ends 20 years from the date you first applied for the patent subject to the payment of appropriate maintenance fees. Design patents last 14 years from the date you are granted the patent. Note: Patents in force on June 8 and patents issued thereafter on applications filed prior to June 8, 1995 automatically have a term that is the greater of the twenty year term discussed above or seventeen years from the patent grant.
